July a little early and it's OKAY

I used to have this thing, this weird superstition about calendars, that I think I made up ( I'm not sure). Anyway, my deal was that I absolutely could not turn over a calendar before the month was over. I could flip through the calendar and look at upcoming dates or check out what the next month's picture was and whatnot, but bad luck would befall me if I permanently turned the calendar over to the new month before the old month was completely finished.

No flipping to January 1st on New Year's Eve for me.

The other day (a particularly windy one) I came into the den and found my Snoopy calendar (shut up, it's soothing) on the floor. Obviously a strong gust had blown it and the tack that was holding it up right off the wall.

I left it lying there on the floor for a few days. No good reason, except that I just couldn't be bothered picking it up and it wasn't hurting anyone where it was resting. And I'm lazy like that sometimes. I'll clean the kitchen up three times in one day, cut both front and back lawns and do four loads of laundry, but picking a calendar up off the floor? That's far too taxing.

Finally yesterday I decided to gather it up and put it back on the wall. I was going to pin up June, but I stopped. June only had a few hours left in it, so it would make much more sense to just pin up July instead.

Except for that bad luck thing.

I stood there for a few minutes contemplating my dilemma. And then pinned up July.

Bad luck arrives for no good reason - or for complicated, complex reasons that I won't know until I meet my maker (who will have a fair bit of explaining to do at that time, by the way). It has nothing to do with whether or not I've put a calendar up 16 hours too early.

It just doesn't.

No, it does not. And good on you.

Not that I don't have my own superstitions....

Oh, and could you possibly come over to my house? I am hoping to be able to interest you in one kitchen in need of cleaning. Laundry? That I can handle. :)

This is funny. Seriously. If I had a calendar, I'd probably have the same superstition. I'm glad you got past it though and saved yourself from having to re-pin the calendar in the morning.

I am absolutely the same way - to the point that I think if something were to happen to me, I wouldn't want my family to be all, "Oh, look, she thought she'd be here..." Anyway. It's silly, but I totally understand. (Also, when I go on trips that cross over a month, I wait to change the calendar until I get back.)

Blessings and peace to you...

I suffer from the same superstition. I get freaked out when someone turns over the day on my day-by-day calendar a day early.

Gotta get over that...

La La La La LA!! I can't hear you--fingers firmly in my ears.

I am so glad you didn't tell me about the snoopy(yes very soothing) calendar on the floor a couple of days ago because you know how anal I am about these things and I probably would have driven the 8+ hours over to your house to pick it up for you...Hmmn now that's not a bad idea at least then we could have had coffee and cake and chatted together.

I also share your superstition and a love of Snoopy as well. I'm not sure where the superstition came from. I also have a superstition about the perpetual calendar my sister gave me for a gift a few years ago. It is in my kitchen and each day I have to turn the dials so that it reads the proper day of the week, number, and month. If I don't do this each day it feels like I will have bad luck. When I return from a trip it is one of the first things I do when I get home. I tried to get Mr. C to do it for me when I was away and he was home, but he wouldn't indulge my weirdness.

I don't share is this particular superstition, but thanks, now I will think about it everytime I flip the calander. :)

P.S. Do they bottle that kitchen cleaning, grass cutting, laundry doing frinzy? I am sure my husband would buy it by the cases.

I won't do that either. I wait until the 1st morning of the 1st day of the month!!

So, you see, you're totally normal!!!! =)
