Christmas used to be merrier once upon a time, but I'm doing my best. I am. I swear I am.
But if I'm being honest (and it seems like I should, just in case Santa's paying attention), I'm kind of looking forward to boxing day more than anything else at the moment.
I can't help it. It's been one hell of a year and I'm just missing too many little people.
Sometimes peace doesn't come when you want it to or when you think it should. In fact that's when it can be particularly elusive. Just because Hallmark says I should feel merry doesn't mean merry is necessarily going to find me.
It might. There's still time.
But if all else fails, there's always boxing day.

Absolutely. I think "merry" can be the wrong word.
In which case, I hope a restful and delicious Christmas day. Eat, drink, and take care of you. Let that turkey lull you into a nice nap. Hug that husband of yours. Don't worry about "merry".
Love.
Not being Canadian, I don't know what boxing day is. But it sounds right up my alley at the moment, if, of course, it's the day when I get to kick things. Is it?
Delurking.
Down here (California), Boxing Day means joining the hordes who rush to return presents and shop the sales. I will not be joining them.
I like your version better.
I will have empty places at my dinner table tomorrow so I understand a little of what you feel. Sometimes I just go through the motions.
I will still wish for you a peaceful, restful Christmas Day.
Tomorrow and boxing day are the only days I have off from work this week, so I join you in the slight lack of merriment this year. I hope you can find even the slightest bit of peace and joy this Christmas. If not, there's always chocolate...
Is it wrong to say I am SO glad I am not the only one?
We need a boxing day down yonder...
I love you for writing this post.
Happy Boxing Day.
Sometimes I think the expectation of merriment is exactly what makes it almost impossible to attain.
Angela said what I was going to say: have a very happy Boxing Day!
I'm happy that Christmas is over and, soon, so will Boxing day. There was not much in the way of merry over here, either.
I am sorry that you have so many little people to miss. I wish you the best of Boxing Days (but I will have to consult Google to find out what that is).
Happy Belated Boxing Day!
Many ((hugs)) across the miles.
I feel your pain. We added one more person to miss on Christmas Eve. I didn't say Merry Christmas to anyone on Christmas, so you're doing better than me at trying to be cheerful.
