I remember the sun crashing its way through the delivery suite windows the morning of the day you were born. I remember it bathing everything in a beautiful golden glow and feeling such joy and anticipation in knowing that you were almost here.
Today looks like that day three years ago. The sun, blissfully bright following yesterday's 36-hour snow storm, reminds me of you and the light and love you brought into our lives.
And the light and love that still remains.

Happy Birthday, Thomas. And as your Mommy to gracefully requested I did 3 things today in your memory (since it is your 3rd birthday):
1. I signed up for a blog account so that I could stop lurking and start leaving comments in blogs like your mommy's, which are ones that greatly enrich other people's lives (even when they are strangers). I've been reading it for 2 years now and never been able to let her know how she reminds me to be grateful for the little things everyday.
2. I baked cupcakes and took them to my next door neighbours. Not quite a random act of kindness, but their (adult) daughter was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago and they are feeling quite down as she goes through radiation.
3. I made a donation in your name to the wfp.org (World Food Program's) "fill the cup" campaign. Their goal is to feed 10million hungry school children in Africa by Thanksgiving Day. I made a $50 donation in your name, which means that a child's cup will be filled for a year, and that dream can be realized. Had your mommy not made the random act of kindness request for today I would have procrastinated doing that and might not of at all.

I am late to this and when I noticed the date it took my breath away.
As sad as it may be, my gift to Thomas on his special day was to gently acknowledge another special baby born one year ago on the same day. Little Louis is also in Heaven after being born still at full term. I made sure his mama knew he was remembered by putting a card and a CD in her mailbox. If I could have, I would have done the same for you.
